Happy 4th everybody.
I have no background in Gettysburg beyond some broad, but not deep, reading. There is the disclaimer. One of the fascinating parts of it to me is the retreat and pursuit. I have always apprreciated the role of weather in the events in world history. My musing this morning is; if the rain was a factor in delaying pursuit would it not have been, equally, a factor in delaying the retreat? OK, then is this part of the answer? For the USA, pursuit was optional; for the CSA retreat was a matter of survival. Hence, the CSA was much more highly motivated when dealing with the same conditions. Part of this posting is motivated by the 4 inch rain that fell here last night, delaying or cancelling some of the festivities scheduled for today. Have a nice fifth, too.
