Since our new member Mike asked about it, I think it's time to begin planning Muster 2010. Folks seemed to really like doing it as a spring muster rather than a fall muster, so let's aim for spring.

We have one problem, though. Mustermeister for Life Shikhvarg has an issue that he has brought to my attention. Allan will be unavailable for much of next May. Consequently, Allan does not think that he should be in charge of muster planning for next year since he will be inaccessible for so much of the month of May, and I agree.

Consequently, I am asking for a volunteer to serve as Mustermeister for 2010. If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion or two of potential candidates--and don't feel like I am volunteering you because I'm not--I would suggest that perhaps Linda Sanson, Steve Basic, Mark Wade, Mindy Eckler, or Rick Allen might please consider undertaking the role for next year. If anyone else is interested, by all means, please let me know.

Time flies. We need for someone to step forward quickly, take charge, and begin the planning process, which begins with selecting a date.

Thanks.

Eric

I am a neophyte concerning the musters but will help out anyway I can. Obviously Allan has some BIG shoes to fill. I would assist anyone who wants to take the lead or would head the Muster up if no one one else wants to lead. I've been on the sidelines and enjoyed everyone else's hardwork putting these together. The last Muster was a great experience.

Mark,

That's great--thanks.

Allan has said that he will help, so you will have him as a resource.

If it is decided that we should have a Saturday night dinner again, like we did last muster, I can help with the planning. We have two options--a cookout like last year, or a dinner at a restaurant that can accommodate a large group.

Mark - never you mind about my shoes

Guys (and gals): I know its a bit of a headache but it CAN be accomplished. Needless to say I can most likely offer some help to whoever takes up the reigns; its just that, like already stated, I will not be available during the whole month and probably most important - the couple of weeks immediately preceding (All of this predicates on having the Muster in May which would be recommended because of the weather issues). In 2006 - I "suddently" lost a tour due to the unplanned emergency of the Leader and... I was in "The Land of Fruits & Nuts" and only by the Grace of God checked the Board and My e-mail, thereby diverting an unpleasant surprize.

Anyways - we are 7 months away so its plenty of time for somebody to put something together (and once more - I am available for suggestions)

Gang,

Linda Sanson has kindly volunteered to serve as Mustermistress for 2010. Many, many thanks to Linda for stepping forward, and thanks again for being Vice Mustermistress for this year's muster, at which she did a great job. Since he offered, we will make Mark Wade the Vice Mustermeister.

After consulting with Linda and the schedule of events in Gettysburg, it looks like the weekend of May 21-23, 2010 is the best option. There are no other big events in town that weekend, which is the weekend before Memorial Day weekend. Unless I hear a lot of objections, book that weekend.

Once we're confirmed for sure, we will work on blocking some rooms at a discounted rate at one of the local hotels for anyone who is interested.

At this year's muster, we had a communal cookout dinner on Saturday night. Everyone seemed to like it, but it is a big undertaking. The other option is a group dinner at a local restaurant. Which would you all prefer?

Finally, we need some tour leaders. We have two new battlefield guides in Stan "The Man" O'Donnell and Christina "I Deserve Lots of Extra Credit for Putting Up With Rick Allen" Moon, and at least one guide-to-be in Phil Muskett, and I hoping that those three will step up and offer to lead tours. Likewise, I'm hoping that Keith Toney will do another excellent tour for us like he did last year. We also welcome volunteers from the rest of the membership, which I encourage. Otherwise, you get the same old, tired stuff that I've been doing for years.

We've taken great pride in the quality of our musters over the years, and there's no reason to believe that next year's version won't be just as good. However, it's going to take some volunteers to make it happen, and this is your call to action.

Eric

Yay Linda!!!!!!!!!

A fine decision and we all know Linda will be fantastic! (we ust have to make sure she doesnt stress out! )

I'll bet Christina will do something, but I havent asked of course. I know she's had a hankerin to do a Hazlett thing though.........

Stan would be awesome doing just about anything, so I hope he's willing to give it a whirl.........and we know Phil has his shit together too, and Keith is terrific, so that would be four good ones right there!

Sounds like a good plan to me!

Regards,

Rick

Sounds like a sweet deal. I would be glad to help in any way I can. Plus May 22nd is my birthday and there is nothing I like better than spending it in Gettysburg.

Larry,

Would you have an interest in celebrating your birthday by doing your Bucktails tour?

I could do that. I have all winter to brush up. Or I could do a presentation on B.G. Charles K. Graham. I have been collecting information on him for the last year and planned on a tour sometime. I believe he would be a new topic that hasn't been covered in any previous tours.

Larry.

Hey General,
I happen to know that Linda is also working up a battlefield walk for the 2 New Hampshire, one of Burlings boys....

I have also turned my research into the 11th NJ boys into a study of Carrs brigade... So there is even more there when it comes to the fight for the Klingel Farm.

So I have noted said muster dates on said calender. We shall be there with bells and whistles and ready to help in any way we can...

How many days is it?

Not to worry, Rick! I'm now taking B-complex anti-stress vitamins.

OK Jim, you can be in charge of the official countdown!

And as for the rest of you...

Have you ever attended a tour and thought “Hey, I could do that! Maybe. Or not. Three hours is kind of a lot of time to fill.”

Well, if you ever thought about splashing around in the Tour Leader pool without diving in head first, have no fear – here’s your chance!

We’re looking for individuals who have a passion that they’d like to share with the rest of us. If you think you can pull together enough info on your favorite Gettysburg related topic to cover about an hour and a half, we want to hear from you!

This year we’re looking to mix it up and give some new faces a chance to shine by including some mini-tours on our muster schedule.

Step up, don’t be shy – the line forms right here!
