Maybe the funniest Poll ever!!! I was hoping to find 'Lingering Year Long Sickness' as a category and tempted as I was to go with 'Having your head shot off by a cannonball" ( love that one!) , I'm afraid I went with 'amputation' cause that sounded like it would take the longest.
Regards,

I think it could really hurt if 40 or something metal balls from a cannister round. Sure it wouldn't hurt for long, but it would hurt in many places. I have even heard when some soldiers got right up to a cannon which just fired a cannister round, were virtually obliterated.

After pondering the amutation for a while I went with a bayonet!
I understand the possible long lasting (lingering) efects of a bad amputation but.... BAYONET.....
First is gonna hurt like a MOTHER going in
The its gonna hurt no less coming out
Now you got a hole in your abdomen and are laying on the battlefield for unknown time before any medics can get to you (of course you're always more than welcome to try and walk\crawl to the field hosplital while desperately trying to hold on to your intestines with one hand...but I'd say those are few and far in between)
So... in that - the feeling ascribed to the amputation will most likely be the same but...there aint nobody to give you water, to wipe the sweat off your brow...
Bayonet, people!!! Painful and slow death.... _________________ I Remain

Whichever one took the LONGEST.
(Which would obviously leave out having your head blown off.) _________________ "Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it."

That would really hurt though if you didn't die instantly from the cannister round. Having metal balls gone through your body and some still stuck inside your body. You would be gushing out blood from the mouth and many other places. You might even be trampled by the remaining men you were standing in a formation next to, breaking many bones by doing so. Now that would be painful.

I would have picked "From disease in a Northern prison camp (Douglas)" but right now it's colder in Texas than Juneau, Alaska, and the thought of being sick and cold like my own relatives in Douglas (2 brothers of my ggrandfather) is just too much!

Now that's a funny question! I was also curious if sickness or disease would be an option, but I choose death by cannonball.

I went with bayonet also... No thank you... I'd rather have my melon removed by a cannonball... quick and probably painless _________________ Civil War Beginnings - The Civil War in Missouri and Kansas
