Is boroughvent "dead?" They've had no new posts since October. I was going over there to see their reaction. (It wasn't going to be positive.) _________________ "Let us have faith that right makes might..."

VICTORY!!!! The Pennsylvania Gaming Commission has rejected the application to put a casino .53 miles south of the park boundary at Gettysburg!!! It's over!!! The last license has been awarded, and there is legislation pending before the General Assembly in Pennsylvania that would ban any other attempt to ever put in a casino anywhere near the battlefield ever again.
Chalk up a victory--the second major one this year--for battlefield preservation!!!
The more I read and the more I learned, it looked less and less likely that Gettysburg would get this license. Still, you never know what might happen, so it's great to soak up this good news.
I wonder what happens now with the Eisenhower Hotel and CC. Are they still closing up? If so, what happens to the land? I wouldn't think perserving it would be a priority at all. I don't think even one monument is anywhere within sight of the property
A low key, mixed use conglomerate of small businesses wouldn't be bad. _________________ "Let us have faith that right makes might..."

Actually, there's a lot more traffic than I thought there would be.
What a bunch of hate mongers. I feel for Susan Paddock. She's probably got stalkers now.
I'm posting this because this makes me feel that much better that the casino was defeated. So I'm going to enjoy this one. Do they think their hate-filled rants HELP their cause? If I EVER start sounding like any of those idiots, take away my log in privileges. I'd love to be the ONE person there with a differing opinion, but they'd probably track down my address and egg my house.
Just a taste of some of their "brilliance" on another thread below: Great conclusions.
700 acres would only have DOUBLED the size of GNMP.
However, their PARTNER, the Civil War Preservation Trust actually IS a Preservation Group.
In their 29 years of existence, the CWPT has PRESERVED nearly 700 acres in Gettysburg or an average of less than 25 acres a year. Based on the CWPT's 29 year Investment of saving less than 25 acres a year, here, they feel compelled to invest thousands and thousands of dollars, monies that have been donated to them by their members for Battlefield PRESERVATION, to fight a legitimate business in an existing property by an investment group willing to take a business risk, create jobs, generate millions of dollars in tax revenue, and create another visitor experience in a time when the tourism trends have declined by double digits over the last decade.
700 acres may sound like a huge accomplishment, but it's dwarfed by what the CWPT has preserved in our neighboring state of VIRGINIA! According to their website the CWPT has preserved nearly 15,000 acres of land there!
If the Battlefield at Gettysburg is SO IMPORTANT to the mission of the CWPT, and the CWPT has raised MILLIONS of dollars by scaring their members with propaganda about developement here, why haven't they REINVESTED more of the funds they have received in donations, grants and trusts for actual preservation acquisitions in Gettysburg or Adams County?

700 = 6000..... and where did they go to school.. They should fire the teachers in that school.. geeezzzz.
Any how.. One of the sweetest victories for preservation in a long time.
I posted the following over on my Facebook page.. Have had one like..
"OK Gettysburg, now lets quit trying to dance with the Devil and wrap your collective arms and brains together and get down to the real business. The long hard grind of how to reallllly save your Town and the Battlefield. So who is going to step forward and bring the key town people to get er done.. JIM"
My last attempt at this failed royally because of a power struggle. So you can only imagine though I am ITCHING, fighting with myself to keep from trying to see if we could do it... I am not the one to lead this.. There HAS TO BE SOME ONE ELSE with the same ideas, but with a better ability to lead this. I will support that effort with every thing within me. But again, I am not the one to lead this. Any one have any ideas, I want to hear them.

I got my dander up after reading their crap.
They are, unfortunately, not insignificant.
Part of a post i contributed at Gettysburg Times that will hopefully be posted there.
To all you people over at Boroughvent: You're the exclusion to my "nothing personal" comment. I dance over the grave of your want for a casino. Your continued criticism of the Civil War Trust continues to ring hollow as well. (How'd you also like their country club purchase?)
Next time I get a little extra money, it's going straight to the Civil War Trust. And the amount will be doubled since my company matches charitable contributions.
700 = 6000..... and where did they go to school.. They should fire the teachers in that school.. geeezzzz.
To clarify, now I'm not sure exactly what I meant or what exactly I was referring to when I wrote that part. Nonetheless, to dismiss the amount of land they've saved there (700 acres as of 2009, but many many more since then) by comparing it to what they've saved at other sites and states is ridiculous. There's only a handful of sites where they have saved more acreage. And it's not like Gettysburg had a bunch of open fields that were on sale and there for the taking. It's like comparing apples and oranges. A site like Brices Crossroads surely had less obstacles to overcome.
It also seems to be a non-starter to argue that the great work they've done elsewhere diminishes what they've done in Gettysburg when also taking into consideration that no other group has come close to saving 700+ acres there.
The Civil War Trust also annually scores high on the Charity Navigator's list of best charities.
Two posts where I mentioned Boroughvent have now been posted. (guess they didn't like my other one because it didn't pass muster.)
I don't think I can say a whole lot that will get past the censors over there. I may not be content until I'm mentioned over at Boroughvent. lol.
"Did you see what that Chris in Indy guy said about us over there?"
From what they wrote, you'd think Susan Paddock ran over their puppy and stole one of their kidneys.
This is sad and funny at the same time. This was from someone who calls themselves Rock32. I think a rock replaced this guy's brain. I'm a little surprised this got thru G-Times' "censors."
Someone else wants Susan Paddock to help pay for their taxes.
All you outsiders make sure you read the article in the paper today about the VC losing money and thats the reason for raiseing the cost to get in. It also means that not as many people are coming to the battlefield.....wait a minute wasn't that what the locals were saying during the Casino debate? No were just a bunch of backwoods hicks that cannot think for ourselves. Outsiders and heritage transplants that want to play dress up are going to be the end of everything Gettysburg and Adams Co. The only thing that will be left in a few years are the Ghost tours and a bunch of vacant battlefield houses with weeds growing up to your waist.
Chris from Indy you need to shut your mouth again your crying over on the same article I mentioned earlier about the price. Nope you make sure you come here and pay that price, you and outsiders say we locals don't know what we are talking about. Why don't all of you outsiders and heritage tourist take a conjugal visit at the big house with Bubba and leave us alone to fend for ourselves so we can revitalize this area the way it should be. _________________ "Let us have faith that right makes might..."

I dont live in the hicks.. I live between Philly and New York, and believe me this isnt the sticks. This guy wouldnt know the sticks or the backwoods if he hit a tree..
This isnt about the Foundation or the VC... This is about HALLOWED GROUND.. About the value of Life and Freedom....
ahhh I should just shut up.. Guys like this aint worth the computer or bandwidth I just used to post this. He would not understand nor woould he try. JIm _________________ "The Flag, THE FLAG, Oh THE FLAG! G.K. Warrens last words on his death bed, August 8,1882

It's obvious that Rock 32 has other issues in his little world going on.
He's obviously insecure and defensive about it. I wouldn't want someone like that on my side.
I noticed he told me to shut my mouth again in the other article.
