This whole episode makes me even more cynical.
I've given money and joined other preservation groups in the past, like the one for Kernstown, Stones River, and one for Perryville. They seemed like fine organizations at the time, but who knows what the future could have held?

My advice: NEVER become a member of anything for more than 1 year at a time.

That is very good advice.

Regarding this clown down at Brandy......I'll be honest with you.....once I read Erics quote of her.......I was done.

"...as an avid Foxhunter...."

I'm not one to beat people to death over their own money, but I swear to Christ, its very hard to come back from that image of landed aristocracy leaping about the fiefdom with a laugh and flowing cape?

It seems purely Virginian, by which I mean boorish and self-entitled. I would have figured these folks to be living in Fauquier if I had to guess.......but they must migrate.? Still, sounds like the same snotty fucks doing the same favors for their equally snotty friends........while they make themselves a private Reserve and sound magnanimous in the bargain?

Nice job Eric.

Regards.

Rick

If I may, the CWT's web page on Brandy Station.
Great photos, while at the same time I was disgusted knowing of the additional damage to the park.
...as if a freaking airport and a house on Fleetwood Hill wasn't enough.

I would imagine that its fair to ask then, who was the honcho of Brandy when the first McMansion on Fleetwood was built and why couldnt it be stopped back then?

Probably Private Propery rights.....just like this one.?

Regards,

Rick

I'm for free markets and property rights, etc., so I get a little queasy when it comes to something like eminent domain - I pretty much know in MY mind when eminent domain is a necessary and GOOD thing, but who made me God? Eminent Domain can certainly be abused...but.....I guess that's pretty much like anything else the gov't can do. Stuff happens. Sometimes it's fair and sometimes not. Fairness is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't want to assume anything (I have a guess based on a prior post), so I'd like Hog Flambe's take on the gov't taking over part of Manassas to save it from development and also the Gettysburg Tower at, well, you know.
I personally think it was the right thing to do in both cases.

Yep, unfortunately. In that instance, there really was nothing that could be done.

Here's what Lake Troilo looks like this afternoon, after a long day of hard rain. If there wasn't an erosion problem before, there most assuredly is one now.....

Shame on you, Joe McKinney, and shame on the BSF board for allowing this to happen without even so much as a peep out of any of you in protest of the wanton and willful destruction of core battlefield land at the base of Fleetwood Hill. Resign. Now.

Are you intending to put all Virginians in your tirade?

Yes, an excellent job, Eric.

If foxhunting doesn't conjure up images of "elitism," pompous snobs, and guys named Winthorp (with butler's named Coleman), I don't know what will.

I don't know why Madam McKinney even mentioned it. WTH does foxhunting have to do with laissez faire attitudes to others' so-called property rights?

America First
All bow to the all knowing schmuck.

I guess self congratulations are in order. I've been called a schmuck. It would appear that Mr. America First has no facts to counter my post and has used the timeless tactic of....name calling.
