Actually, most of the ones I've looked through so far I've NEVER seen. Unfortunately, they are not dated. If I had to hazard a guess, the ones on the first couple pages are from the '20's.

Type "gettysburg" in the search box.

Let's have some fun with this and see if we can't even help identify some of these photos.

This one only says it's from Cemetery Ridge. I can't tell which direction the camera is facing, nor do I recognize the barn in the left side of the photo. Chances are that the barn is no longer there today. The camera may be facing South-Southwest down the Baltimore Pike. Maybe the upper left is the start of Culp's Hill. If it were looking North, I'd think we'd have to see the majority of the main part of town, including the former orphanage that is just north of Evergreen Cemetery.

Any ideas?

This is either a relative of mine in the doorway or Ma Kettle. Can't tell for sure.

I think that 'unrecognizable' monument in the last picture is the 26th PA Emergency Milita......I'm guessing before it was moved to its present location?

Regards,

Rick

Rick,

It is.

The other one--78th and 102nd NY--is on Culp's Hill, if I'm not mistaken.

Yep, thats the one on Culps Hill where some people see a Lion kind of worked into the rocky portion of the wall.

The middle pic may be Lee's HQ, looks like it anyway.

Regards,

Rick

What gave it away that it was definitely Lee's HQ? The label at the top of the picture?

Thanks for everyone's help. So it sounds like both monuments in question still exist. So where was the 26th PA Emergency Militia monument moved to?

I just remembered this website.

Here's the 78th/102nd NY:

The 26h PA Emergency Infantry Monument is located at the Junction of Springs Avenue and Chambersburg St. There's also a second marker for the 26th.

This is great. As if I need any more reasons to go back to Gettysburg, I keep finding them.

Chris,

The monument to the "Brave Sir Robin Regiment" (run away!) has never been moved. It sits in the same spot. It's right where Buford Avenue ends becomes the main drag through Gettysburg.

I've got too much free time.

Minstrel: [singing] Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot. He was not afraid to die, oh brave Sir Robin. He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways, brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin. He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp, or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken. To have his kneecaps split, and his body burned away, and his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin. His head smashed in and heart cut out, and his liver removed, and his bowels unplugged...
