Have any of you guys seen the following movies:
Pharaoh's Army
Wicked Spring
The Last Confederate: The Story of Robert Adams
The Colt
Class of '61
This has little to do with the Civil War other than seeing Fred Thompson play US Grant: "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"
I loved all of these, but story of Robert Adams was a bit too much of a "romantic" historic accounts. _________________ Fellow Citizens, we cannot escape history. ~Abraham Lincoln |

I was very much impressed with The Last Confederate and, am sorry to say, practically fell asleep watching Cold Spring _________________ I Remain

| Nope, I haven't seen a one. I wouldn't mind throwing the best of the selection on my neflix queue. What do you recommend? |

Just FYI, you're probably not going to get a response from the original poster.
FTR, I can't recommend 'Wicked Spring' unless you have trouble sleeping. _________________ "Let us have faith that right makes might..."

Wicked Spring is basically a niche film - kind of European in some ways. I guess you love it or hate it. It's a slower paced, character driven film. While the plot is based on some real episodes, to me it does feel contrived. Some of the acting is on a par with what you find in major motion pictures and some of it is less than Oscar worthy, but you won't find any 425 pound Confederates in it. It's set during the Battle of the Wilderness and the location is a good double. The clothing is, if not museum quality then damn close, the beards are real, and the combat sequences are some of the most realistic I've seen in films. The effects are damn good and the set dressing is spot on. That said, it is an Indie - if you're looking for over the top Hollywood CGI production values, this ain't your film.
Disclaimer: I've worked for the director and with some of the cast and crew _________________ "There are nights here with the moonlight, cold and ghastly & the whippoorwills & the screech owls alone disturbing the silence when I could tear my hair & cry aloud for all that is past & gone."- Mary Chesnut |

Linda,
I agree. The film is very slow paced and I believe at times the phrase "Um, ok, when is something going to happen?" may have crossed my mind.
But it is very well done in terms of costumes and location. I always recommend it to people wishing to get a 'sense' or 'feel' of the period. I also find the characters are well developed and believable.

| I'm looking for a good movie, whether it be slow or fast paced. Is wicked spring the best out of the listed movies? |

Not IMHO. I'd go with The Last Confederate before this one _________________ I Remain

I'd place "Ride with the Devil" ahead of "Wicked Spring."
Were there battle scenes in "Wicked?"
Sorry, but all I remember about the film is a bunch of guys sitting around a campfire. Immaculately and accurately dressed or not, it was a snoozefest for me.
For me, any Civil War collection has to include "Gettysburg" and "Glory." _________________ "Let us have faith that right makes might..."

| I'd rank Glory as #1 and Gettysburg as #2, both were very good movies. |

| Alright, I've seen the blasted movie, The Last Confederate..... It was a good movie and a great story, but sure did resemble a lifetime channel movie. I think women will love this movie more than men. |

Laura;
The first time I saw Wicked Spring I almost got deathly bored with the entire loooonnnggg opening sequence but...once the action really started....WOW!
The film, once the action started, knocked my socks off.... almost literally.... And my wife...wo was watching the movie also.. picked up on the Harrison Bolding character not being able to read or write before I did.
Linda, some of the events might appear contrived, but for getting the feel for CW combat and the chaos and confusion and &c, it is spot on! _________________ Your Humble Servant,

Action? What Action?
The last 10 mins of the whole movie????
I'm sorry but that (IMHO) was THE most boring movie I've seen in a long time.... _________________ I Remain

I think "Wicked" is THE reason they're probably going to go ahead and allow that Walmart to be built on or near Wilderness Battlefield land.
My apologies for my wicked sense of humor. _________________ "Let us have faith that right makes might..."
