Just watched Winston Groom's talk about his book "Vicksburg, 1863" and am stunned that CSPAN would even allow it to be shown on Book TV.

He opens his talk saying he is not prepared because of TV committments that day it was filmed, and yet the Atlanta audience he was speaking to did not seem to mind. Hell, you know it's not good when Groom can't even remember McClernand's name during his presentation. Shows how smart the audience was, as they were shouting out names, and one actually said Ewell before McClernand's name was shouted out to him.

Add to it that during his talk he used profanity to make his points about the story of Vicksburg. Grant was up shit's creek is my fave line in his talk. Trust me, I am one who can curse with the best of them, but would never do so if I was giving a talk such as this.

And then he ends his Q & A early, as the only thing on his mind was selling books and signing them. Unreal. Am posting the link to the talk because I know it is late and maybe I am overreacting, but I hate anyone watching this one hour fiasco to prove my sanity. But I wish someone would to assure me yeah, you are nuts Steve, but not that nuts.

Stick to fiction Mr. Groom. Just awful.

Regards from the Garden State,

Well Steve, not quite a Tour De Force, was it?

I think if I were that unprepared after writing a book on the topic.........I'd just stay home and collect my Forrest Gump royalties.

Naturally, I didnt mind the profanity........those down home Old folk can get away with it better than anyone and Mr. Groom seems like a guy I'd like to listen to over a few beers on a large wrap-around porch........but only for about a half hour, by that time I'd be sick of him.

You're not crazy though Base.........that was a fairly scattershot effort.
