And even though I'm a "chick" I didn't like "Cold Mountain" either...Jude Law or no Jude Law. LOL

Anna -
Let's start a club - chicks who didn't like 'Cold Mountain'. I caught the 4:30 show on Christmas Day and spent the entire movie critiquing - "look at the sleeves on that dress!" - "what is with her hair?", etc., etc. Although I must admit - I thought 'The Crater' scenes were great and Zellweger deserved the Oscar.

I still think the best part of 'Gods and Generals' was the opening credits. (Not Mr. Lang's fault - guy's an incredible actor, but if I ever run into Ron Maxwell I'll beat him over the head with my parasol.)

Sounds like a great idea for a club, Ellis! I had several friends who loved "Cold Mountain" and just couldn't understand how I, as a Civil War buff, could not love this movie! If it's a "period" movie and my friends love it, this is normally an omen to avoid it like the plague...LOL! I did, though, also enjoy the "Crater" scenes as well as the cinematography.

I also loved the opening credits of "Gods and Generals" Ellis. I saw the movie three times when it came out, and always brought lots of tissue for the opening credits - the battle flags flying and the beautiful, haunting song about home...

Please give Mr. Maxwell as couple of whacks with your parasol for me too...LOL! (I loved your animation...!)

The opening credits were done by the lovely & talented Mary Fahl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yVyo5Ej8Ns She was the lead singer for the band October Project. That was indeed the best part of the movie.....though I really liked the scene with Jeff Daniels & his wife Mira Sorvino.

While I positively hated "Cold Mountain" the book I loved the movie.
But I didn't like "Wicked Spring"...just too slow, drawn out....

"Wicked Spring" was a good cure for insomnia.

Anyone see their film on Monocacy? I was wondering if I should waste my time and money on it.

I really didn't like "Cold Mountain." It was way too much of a lovefest. I'd rather watch "Gone with the Wind."
For one thing, I can't really stand Jude Law, but I really didn't like Philip Seymour Hoffman's character.

You mean "No Retreat from Destiny" with our own Ellis in the Main Supporting Role as a Thieving Nosey Woman?
Why I own a personal copy (compliments of the *Star*)

OK, but is it any good or do we have multiple scenes of Ellis talking around a campfire?

I'd take 2 hours of wall-to-wall battle if done right.

My God, that picture from Gods and Generals sums up perfectly what a stilted, bloated piece of oratorical bullshit that movie really was.

FWIW, I agree about the opening credits........they were great. Then the shit hit the fan............

Regards,

Rick

I wish, just once, that you'd tell us how you really feel.

Sorry, I'm nowhere near a campfire. But if you'd like to watch a bunch of women in corsets and hoopskirts fighting over food (Richmond Bread Riot) this is the film for you.

I for sure did not like Cold Mountain. I also got "how can you not like it?" I simply hated it and will not watch it again. The only thing I could stand was the Petersburg scene. My poor mom thought she did a good thing by buying the movie for my birthday.

Not to make a judgment on his character, but I'm just saying that I hope alcohol wasn't involved.
